FILE - This Sept. 10, 2009 file photo shows teacher keeping watch over students of an orphanage as they take compulsory rest afternoon prayers during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Islam has a guardianship system that resembles foster care yet has no exact counterpart in Western law. To try to bridge the differences, adoption specialist Helene Lauffer has sought out a group of Muslim women scholars and activists. 'At the end of the day, it's about trying to find families for kids,' she says. (AP Photo/Pavel Rahman, File)AP - Helene Lauffer knew Muslim children — orphaned, displaced, neglected — needed homes in the United States. She knew American Muslim families wanted to take them in.
