Lebanese Christian leader says escapes assassination Posted: 23 Sep 2012 08:38 AM PDT BEIRUT (Reuters) - A Lebanese Christian political leader and ally of the Shi'ite group Hezbollah said he escaped an assassination attempt when his convoy came under fire in the south of the country. Michel Aoun, head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), was returning to Beirut on Saturday evening when one of the cars in his convoy was shot at in the mainly Sunni city of Sidon, a statement on the FPM website said. "I have been exposed to three assassination attempts (in the past) and the perpetrators were discovered," the website quoted Aoun as saying. ...

Suicide bomber kills two, wounds 46, at Nigerian church Posted: 23 Sep 2012 08:03 AM PDT BAUCHI, Nigeria (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber blew himself up outside a Catholic church in northern Nigeria on Sunday, killing himself and at least two other people and wounding 46, police said. Police cordoned off the area around St. John's church after the blast, which caused minimal damage to the building but killed at least two people in a market area of Bauchi city. A Reuters journalist saw emergency services bring out three bodies in the area, called Wunti, and police identified one as the occupant of the car that blew up. Several wounded were being taken out on stretchers. ...
