The report, using the regime's term for rebels, blamed "terrorists" for the attack on the Bab Tuma neighbourhood in the centre of the Syrian capital. Another shell smashed into the Al-Hal market in Zablatani neighbourhood, also in the centre of Damascus, wounding 13 people and causing damage to shops, SANA said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported three people killed and 30 wounded by mortar fire in the two neighbourhoods on Wednesday.

Its report tabled in the Victorian parliament follows a long-running probe and concluded that "we can reasonably estimate that there have been several thousand victims criminally abused in non-government organisations in Victoria alone". The most senior Catholic in Victoria, Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart, admitted the church had been too slow toact on paedophile priests. The report also suggested an independent statutory body to oversee the handling of sexual abuse allegations within government, non-government and religious organisations.

Man surfaces at San Diego church 34 years after abduction to Mexico Posted: 12 Nov 2013 08:00 PM PST By Marty Graham SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - A U.S.-born man who was abducted as a child, taken to Mexico and robbed of all his money in a harrowing trek back to the United States more than three decades later has found refuge at a San Diego church that is trying to reunite him with his mother in Wisconsin. David Amaya Barrick, 37, was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents last month but freed after convincing authorities of his U.S. citizenship and contacting his mother for the first time since his 1979 abduction - only to vanish again for several days. His mother, Kathy Amaya, 60, was so distraught by his disappearance that she called San Diego police last week to report him missing. "We are going to find a way to get him to his family," said Pastor Freddy Rivas.
